Manhunt for suspect in Los Angeles double murder
WINNETKA, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Police Department is asking the public's help finding Brian Anthony Gonzales, 24, also known as Brian Hammond, a suspect in the shooting deaths of a man and woman in the Winnetka neighborhood of Los Angeles, CBS Los Angeles reports.
Officers responded to a home Sunday afternoon after receiving a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, LAPD officer Aareon Jefferson told CBS affiliate KFMB.
Upon their arrival, authorities discovered a 22-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene.
KFMB reported that, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, Jerrad Scott, 24, of La Mesa, was identified as the male shooting victim. The coroner's office is waiting to release the woman's identity pending family notification, according to the station.
A preliminary investigation revealed the woman called 911 and reported that her ex-boyfriend, now considered a suspect, was inside her home and armed with a gun.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 24-year-old Brian "Hammond" Anthony Gonzales, described as black, about 5-feet, 7-inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds. Anyone with information on the case is urged to call the LAPD's Valley Bureau homicide office at 818-374-1923, or 877-LAPD-247.
It is unclear whether the victims were romantically involved. The investigation is ongoing.
