Man who allegedly ate victim's brain may have also killed an ex-cop, says cousin of accused

(CBS) - Police said Thursday that the Florida man who killed a Connecticut man with an ax and then ate part of his brain may be connected to the killing of a former police officer earlier this month, reports the Connecticut Post.

Tyree Smith, 35, was arrested Tuesday for the murder of Angel Gonzales in Bridgeport, Conn., on Dec. 15. Police believe he hacked Gonzales with an ax, removed part of his brain, and later ate it.

Smith's cousin, Nicole Rabb, contacted police after Smith allegedly told he'd killed Gonzales. Rabb told the Connecticut Post that she also worried her cousin may have also been involved in the death of former New Haven police officer Kevin Console.

Console was found dead on Jan. 19, reportedly near Rabb's apartment where Smith had been staying, Rabb told the Post.

According to the Post, Smith's Facebook page contained "disturbing" posts about drinking and working on a "grisly" manuscript, the details of which reportedly made him think that he'd end up in prison if police ever read it.

The Walton Sun newspaper reports that after a Wednesday hearing in Florida, Smith is waiting for Connecticut authorities to transport him back to the state where he will be tried.
