Man shot after pulling gun on detective in Brooklyn, NYPD says

NEW YORK -- An 18-year-old man was shot and wounded by police after pulling a gun and attempting to rob plainclothes detective in Brooklyn.

It happened at Monroe Street and Bedford Avenue in Bedford Stuyvesant just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police say three plainclothes detectives were investigating a past robbery in the area when one of the detectives was approached by three males.

CBS New York reported that earlier on Sunday, a woman went to look at an apartment that was supposedly for rent, but was robbed by three male teenagers instead. The woman called the cops, who then set up a meeting with the suspects themselves, according to law enforcement sources.

Police say one of the men pulled out a firearm and demanded his property. Police say the detective then fired his firearm, striking the 18-year-old suspect in the arm and torso.

The suspect was hospitalized in stable condition.

Police say a second suspect, a 16-year-old male, is in custody and a third suspect is being sought. Police say a firearm was recovered.
