(CBS/AP) WASHINGTON - Jose H. Portillo, 22, has been sentenced to 137 years in prison for the murder of a Northwest Washington couple in 2008, Portillo was the first of the three killers to receive sentencing.

Portillo was convicted of 15 charges, including first-degree felony murder and second-degree murder after he and two others attacked and burglarized Michael and Virginia Spevak in their Chevy Chase home, the Washington Post reports.

Michael, 68, and Virginia, 67, were known as community activists who also sometimes took in foster children, the paper reported.

In Nov. 2008 they were found beaten and stabbed in their home. Their computers and electronics were gone.

Accompanying Portillo were Peiro Fuentes Hernandez, 23, and Angela Hernandez, 22.

Hernandez pleaded guilty in Jan. 2009 to second-degree murder while armed and Angela Hernandez, no relation, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed and burglary, reported the paper.

Prosecutors said Angela Hernandez knew the Spevaks because she had been childhood friends with one of their former foster children, according to the paper.

Both will be sentenced in May.
