Man Jailed For One Of UK's Biggest Cash Robberies

A British man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role in a robbery nearly three years ago of 53 million pounds (about $85 million).

Paul Allen's sentence was handed down Monday at a London court. Allen pleaded guilty to participating in one of Britain's biggest cash robberies at a depot in southern England.

An armed gang kidnapped the manager of the Securitas Cash Management Ltd. and his family and stole the cash on Feb. 22, 2006. Police have recovered almost half of the money.

The 31-year-old Allen fled to Morocco after the robbery and was extradited last year. Five other men were convicted in January 2008 and given lengthy prison sentences.
