Man dies after Denver police traffic stop, report says
Police said the death followed a traffic stop Sunday night.
"Upon contact the suspect became combative and attempted to assault the officer. The suspect was taken into custody after a brief use of force," Sonny Jackson with the Denver police said in a statement. "After being handcuffed the suspect walked to the police car and was placed in the back seat. A short time later the suspect was observed in what appeared to be medical distress," Jackson said.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was tranported to a hospital and died a short time later.
The investigation involves the Office of the Independent Monitor, which provides oversight of Denver law enforcement.
