The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) says that 36-year-old Matthew Reed is charged with first-degree murder. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer. Authorities have not said whether Reed knew the victim, Hinkson. CBS affiliate WRAL reports officials close to the investigation said Reed contacted authorities and told them where to find the body.

The SBI didn't release any other details about the case. It took over the investigation after the body of the priest from All Saints Church was found at the state park.

Authorities say Hinkson was last seen Monday, August 4 heading to the bank. His car was found nearly 5 miles from his home on Wednesday, August 6.

Hinkson is survived by his wife of 48 years, three children and eight grandchildren, according to WRAL.
