The Detroit News reports Andrew D. Thompson was charged Tuesday with larceny in the August theft.

Defense lawyer J. Herbert Larson told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Thompson "admitted bad judgment" and returned items including an autographed pair of shoes. Larson says Thompson will take full responsibility for his actions.

Police say the theft wasn't immediately noticed because Seger's family was moving from the Detriot suburb of Orchard Lake to another home. Police say a 1978 Gibson Les Paul guitar believed taken from the home at the same time was returned in May.

Larson says his client didn't take the guitar.
