Man arrested in shooting death of girl, 3, in Maryland
LANDOVER, Md. - Authorities have made an arrest in the shooting death of a 3-year-old Maryland girl, CBS Baltimore reported Thursday. However, the man in custody is not the suspected gunman.
Prince George's County Police say 24-year-old Brian Ray Campbell was an accessory to murder in the death of Knijah Bibb. According to the station, Campbell lives on the street where the shooting occurred Sunday outside a home in Landover.
Even though police say he didn't pull the trigger, Campbell is still being charged with first-degree murder in the case. He allegedly assisted the shooting suspect, Davon Wallace, before and after the incident.
"Brian Campbell was instrumental in this horrific crime," said Lt. Bill Alexander. "[Investigators] believe that Brian gave Wallace the weapon... and also provided him transport after the crime."
"I'm destroyed," Brenda Bibb, Knijah's grandmother, told CBS Baltimore. "I lost something that was a part of me that I loved so much."
Police said a fight over clothing between Wallace and a man living in the home led to Wallace grabbing a gun and opening fire. The station reports the outside of the house was hit by at least five bullets. One shot pierced a window and killed Knijah, who was visiting and playing inside.
Wallace remains at large. A reward for information leading to his arrest is up to $25,000, according to the station.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Prince George's County Police, or call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS to remain anonymous.
