Madonna tops Forbes' highest-paid musicians list

Forbes has named the pop star the highest-paid musician of 2013. The "Material Girl" earned an estimated $125 million thanks to her "MDNA" tour, along with her clothing line and fragrance. Really, what doesn't Madge do?

"Madonna is living up to her nickname: The Material Girl tops our list of the top-earning musicians by a wide margin," Forbes noted.

The 55-year-old singer topped Lady Gaga, 27, who raked in $80 million and rock band Bon Jovi, which landed in third place at $79 million. Country singer Toby Keith came in fourth place pulling in $65 million, and rounding out the top 5 was Coldplay with $64 million.

These kinds of lists often come down to what musicians had going on during a specific time period -- that includes major tours, album releases and other ventures. For example, Gaga's new "ARTPOP" album wasn't included in the tally.

Forbes compiled the list by looking at the period of June 2012 and June 2013 using data from the Pollstar, the RIAA and Nielsen SoundScan. The magazine also took into consideration information from industry lawyers and managers.
