(CBS/AP) BALTIMORE - Baltimore police say a man fatally shot his wife and that another woman left bound in a bedroom in his home chewed through ropes to escape.

Police called to the home early Saturday say they found the body of 37-year-old Karolina Derezinska-Szkiluk.

A second woman told police that the victim's husband, 63-year-old Lukasz Szkiluk, told her he wanted her to take care of some things while he visited Poland, then pulled out a gun and tied her to a bed.

She told police that she heard his wife at the door, heard a pop, and then Szkiluk showed her his wife's body and tied her up again.

After she slept a while, the second woman chewed through the ropes to free herself and called police.

According to CBS Baltimore, Szkiluk's prior criminal background included urinating in public in 2005 and a theft under $300.

Szkiluk is charged with first- and second-degree murder, assault and weapons charges. He is reportedly being held in the Baltimore City jail.
