(CBS) "Love Bites," the much anticipated romantic comedy that NBC finally put on its summer schedule, debuted to weak numbers on Thursday night.

The show, starring Becki Newton, rated a 1.0 in the key key 18- to 40-year-old demo , with 2.5 million viewers, according to preliminary ratings numbers

This showing put NBC dead last in the ratings, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

ABC was in first place with the NBA finals game between the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat, followed by Fox with the summer dance competition "So You Think You Can Dance," CBS and Univision.

"Love Bites" was originally scheduled for last fall on NBC but was shelved for "The Apprentice." NBC blamed the scheduling change on a variety of factors, including Newton's pregnancy.
