Londyn Samuels Murder Update: Keelen Armstrong arrested in shooting of 1-year-old
(CBS/AP) NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans police have charged a 24-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a toddler.
Police said in a news release Wednesday night that Keelen Armstrong has been booked on first-degree murder in the slaying of 13-month-old Londyn Samuels. Armstrong was also booked for attempted first-degree murder in the wounding of the child's caretaker.
According to The Times-Picayune, police believe Armstrong shot the child's 18-year-old babysitter in the back, and the bullet traveled through her body, then fatally struck Londyn.
Police said Armstrong was pulled over during a traffic stop Wednesday morning for speeding, according to CBS affiliate WWLTV. Officers discovered outstanding warrants and brought him to jail, where detectives determined that he was a suspect in the girl's death.
Investigators believe there is at least one more person responsible for the shooting.
The 18-year-old babysitter is recovering from her injuries.
