(Las Vegas, NV) -- Investigators are trying to determine why a trench collapsed in Henderson and killed a construction worker. Two men who happened to be father and son were laying pipe at the water reclamation plant at Pabco and Sunset when the accident happened. When the trench gave way they were buried under layers of dirt and concrete. Rescuers were able to pull the father to safety but they were unable to save his son.

(Las Vegas, NV) -- The fatal robbery of a local jewelry store may not have been random. Channel Eight Eyewitness News reports that the Chong Hing jewelry store in Chinatown Plaza may have been robbed by the same suspects who robbed a jewelry store in the San Francisco area owned by the same man. The suspects may have robbed dozens of other jewelry stores in that area. There are rumors the suspects may be linked to an Asian Mafia, possibly Vietnamese or Chinese. The suspects shot to death a security guard outside before busting in and robbing the store around noon. Police are reviewing a surveillance tape of the heist.

(Las Vegas, NV) -- A security guard was shot to death in a jewelry store robbery yesterday. Kenneth Bailey was shot outside the Chong Hing jewelry store in Chinatown Plaza by men who robbed the store. Bailey is survived by his two children, an eleven-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son. Bailey had moved to the valley about two months ago specifically to work at the store. Bailey's family lives in California.

(Las Vegas, NV) -- Nevada is listed as a top spot for Fall in a new travel survey. Nevada is the third most favorite destination for travelers planning a Fall get-away. Florida came in first, California was second, Hawaii was fourth and Texas rounded out the top five. Nevada's popularity rose from last year when the Silver State was fourth on the list of top spots for Fall vacations.

(Las Vegas, NV) -- Sam Boyd stadium is preparing for tomorrow night's home opener for the U-N-L-V Rebels. The team has an early no-loss, two-win record as they welcome Iowa State. New grass has been installed on their field and the end zones have been painted, and the new scoreboards are up. Coach John Robinson makes his home debut tomorrow night. It's expected that a record crowd of 30-thousand spectators will be on hand for the game.
