Lightning Re-Sign Corey Schwab

The Tampa Bay Lightning secured their backup goaltender position for the 1998-99 season Wednesday, re-signing Group II free agent Corey Schwab. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Schwab has played the last two seasons with Tampa Bay since being acquired from the New Jersey Devils on June 22, 1996, for goaltender Jeff Reese. He has posted a 13-21-2 record, 2.89 goals-against average and three shutouts in 47 games with the team.

The 27-year-old appeared in just 16 contests last season, compiling a 2-9-1 record and 2.92 GAA. He went 0-3-0 in 10 games as a rookie with the Devils in 1995-96.
