"Life of Pi" to open New York Film Festival
(CBS/AP) "Life of Pi," Ang Lee's adaptation of Yann Martel's bestselling novel about a young man lost at sea with a Bengal tiger, will open the 50th annual New York Film Festival.
The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced Monday that the film will have its world premiere at the festival on Sept. 28.
It is the first time the festival will open with a 3-D film.
Lee has a history with the New York Film Festival - his film "The Ice Storm" opened the festival in 1997, and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" closed the event in 2000.
The New York Film Festival will run from Sept. 28 to Oct. 14, with Robert Zemeckis' "Flight" as the closing film.
"Life of Pi" will arrive in theaters on Nov. 21. Watch a trailer for the film below:
