LeTourneau Has Baby Girl

Mary Kay Letourneau, the former elementary school teacher serving time for having a sexual relationship with a teenage student, gave birth to a second baby girl late Friday, nearly nine months after she was caught with the student in violation of her probation.

Susan Howards, a Boston lawyer representing Letourneau, confirmed early Saturday morning that her client had given birth to a baby girl named Georgia at 10:48 p.m PDT. Further details were not immediately available.

The 15-year-old boy is believed to be the father of this child, and the couple already have a child that was born in May 1997.

Fire fighters transported Letourneau from the Washington Corrections Center for Women to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington.

Genetic testing will be done to determine paternity conclusively for legal reasons.

Howards said the baby weighted between 8 and 9 pounds and that both mom and baby are doing fine.

Letourneau was a popular sixth-grade teacher in the Seattle suburb of Burien and a married mother of four when her relationship with the boy was discovered in early 1997.

A 300-page tell-all book by Letourneau and the teen was released earlier this month in Europe. "Un Seul Crime, L'Amour" "Only One Crime, Love" was released only in French and is not yet available in the United States.

Much of it dwells on protestations by the former teacher and Fualaau, now 15, that love cannot be outlawed.

Because the boy was just 13 when they began having sex, she was charged with child rape.

Letourneau pled guilty and was released after six months in jail on condition that she get treatment and have no contact with the boy.

But less than a month after her release, police stumbled on the couple in a car packed with virtually all Letourneau's belongings including cash, baby clothes and her passport.

Letourneau is currently serving a seven-year, five-month prison term for second-degree child rape.
