Lesley Stahl's Notebook

Hi everyone-

I flew out of New York in the storm yesterday and have been traveling ever since chasing a story across the country. I was able to tape my part for tonight's (Dec. 6) 48 Hours Investigates before I left - two stories that reveal much about family, love and determination.

The first one is about two women who were mistakenly switched at birth in a small-town Wyoming hospital. They didn't find out until they were in their 40s. Correspondent Erin Moriarty follows these two women as they - and this is really remarkable television - find out about each other and then meet.

In the second story, correspondent Susan Spencer tells about a baby who was left under a gazebo in Addison, Ill. in 1972. She's 30 now, and has found her biological mother, thanks to the help of a Web site. Both of these segments are deeply emotional, as you might expect. It's all part of 48 Hours Investigates, "Family Secrets" tonight (Dec. 6) at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

And then for something completely different, on Sunday's 60 Minutes, at 7 p.m. ET/PT, an interview with Nicole Kidman. If I had to describe in her in just one word, I'd say vulnerable.

Guess how tall she is? Nearly 5'11" and yet the whole picture is one of total body and soul fragility. She's just out with her new movie, "The Hours," in which you will not recognize her. She has a big costume nose and in that disguise, vulnerable Nicole roars as she plays the part of Virginia Woolf.

But, of course, I asked her many questions that were not about Virginia Woolf. She tells me that Tom Cruise was the love of her live and that when he asked for the divorce, she fell apart, cried all the time, couldn't get out of bed and didn't until her mother arrived from Australia and told her to shape up.

I liked her very much and found her disarmingly down to earth. She showed up for our interview without an entourage. I think you'll find her charming and surprisingly candid.

So remember, 48 Hours Investigates tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT and then 60 Minutes on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

And keep that feedback coming to LesleyStahl@cbsnews.com. I'm not able to reply directly to each email, but I do get to read what you have to say.

Thanks for watching.
