Leahy, Conyers Ask White House To Justify Executive Privilege Claim
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) are asking White House Counsel Fred Fielding to offer information supporting its executive privilege claim in blocking the testimony of senior Bush administration aides or turning over documents under subpoena by their panels.
If Fielding fails to provide the required information by July 9, Leahy and Conyers will consider moving contempt of Congress motions through their committees, according to a letter they sent to Fielding today.
