Lawyer: Charge Is 'Pulp Fiction'

In court Monday, Quentin Tarantino's lawyer said the accusation that the actor/director hit a woman in a restaurant is "pulp fiction."
Tarantino pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor assault, after his lawyer Paul Callan asked the judge to drop the charge altogether. Judge Neil Ross rejected his request.

"These allegations are nothing more than, if you pardon the expression, pulp fiction," Callan said.

Leila Mwangi, a fashion stylist, said the Tarantino tried to punch her boyfriend at a restaurant on May 1st, and hit her instead, cutting her forehead.

Tarantino's lawyer said that a $15 million dollar lawsuit between Mwangi and the Pulp Ficton star is at the bottom of the accusation.

Outside court Tarantino said, "This is the first time I have ever been blackmailed."

But Ms. Mwangi's lawyer, Robert Godosky, replied, "My client has a 2-inch scar through her eyebrow. That scar didn't miraculously appear."

If found guilty, Tarantino could face up to a year on jail. He is due back in court on September 9th.
