(CBS) MODESTO, Calif. - The husband of a California assemblywoman is facing a misdemeanor assault charge after he allegedly bruised the arm of a 4-year-old boy during a soccer practice, CBS Sacramento reports.

After a two-month investigation, the district attorney filed the charge against Rod Olsen, husband of Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen (R-Modesto).

The mother of the boy, Ashley Heapy, says Rod Olsen became irate with her son, claiming the 4-year-old was bullying his own son. Heapy says Olsen grabbed the child's arm so hard that it left significant bruising.

"He said, 'The man that scared me, hurt my arm Mommy,'" Heapy told CBS Sacramento. "He lifted up his sleeve, and I saw the visible marks on my son's arm, and that's when I knew Rod had grabbed him."

"You can obviously see there are four fingers on his bicep," said the boy's father, Matt Price.

The parents say Olsen should face more than a misdemeanor charge, according to the station, and reportedly believe he's getting preferential treatment because of his wife's stature.

CBS Sacramento said calls about the case to Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen were not returned.
