Law School Big Condemned For Racial Slur
Leaders of Rhode Island's minority community are condemning a racial slur made by the former president of the board at Roger Williams University.
Lawmakers and others are demanding that Ralph Papitto's name be removed from the university's law school, the only one in Rhode Island. They also say they want to meet with university President Roy Nirschel and want there to be a greater commitment to more minority representation on boards in Rhode Island.
Papitto stepped down as board president this month, two months after using the n-word in a board meeting — but only as three other members of the board were ousted.
The remark became public only when ousted board members brought it to The Providence Journal last weekend.
Minority leaders today also called for the reinstatement of those board members.
