Latin Lady Tops Christian Pop

Lots of teen singers are dominating the charts these days, like country singer Leann Rhimes and pop singers Brandy and Hanson. And now, there's a new teenager topping Christian music charts, and her name is Jaci Velasquez. CBS 'This Morning' Co-Anchor Mark McEwen has the report.

Jaci is just 18, a recording star on a mission. She wants to make music that inspires and touches the soul.

"I think people are looking for something that's going to make them happy, something that they can believe in, something that's going to change their life for the better," says the young Houston native.

Velasquez is the first Hispanic singer to make it big on the Christian charts and her new self-titled album has already spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Christian music chart.

"I don't know what I would credit the success to, because the only thing you can thank is God," says Velasquez.

When Velasquez was 15, she made history with her debut album, Heavenly Place,, which yielded five No. 1 singles on the gospel charts.

Velasquez says she's thrilled to have the opportunity to touch so many lives through her music, and she says there will always be a message in every song she sings.

"Hearing a song that is not only a pop melody but has something that makes you remember it message-wise and give you some sort of happiness," says Velasquez. "That's what this whole record is about."
