Landrieu Outraised By GOP Rival In 1st Q Fundraising

Senate Republicans have encouraging news on the fundraising front today after their nominee in Louisiana outraised Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) in the first fundraising quarter.

State Treasurer John Kennedy announced today that he raised about $1.4 million in the quarter, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, outdistancing Landrieu by a $400,000 margin. Landrieu is expected to report raising about $1 million over the past three months.

Landrieu still boasts a significant financial advantage over Kennedy, with about $4.5 million cash on hand in her campaign account.

Kennedy is the Republicans’ most high-profile challenger — in a cycle full of recruitment shortfalls for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. He switched parties last August in preparation for a campaign against Landrieu. Kennedy ran as a Democrat in 2004 against Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), finishing a distant third in the all-party race.
