La. couple is sued over sign supporting son serving in Afghanistan
(CBS/AP) BOSSIER CITY, La. - A Louisiana homeowners association is suing the parents of a U.S. marine to force them to remove a sign in their front yard supporting their son's service in Afghanistan.
The subdivision, the Gardens of Southgate in South Bossier City, filed the suit this month against Timothy and Jodi Burr, claiming the sign violates subdivision covenants.
In January, the Burrs placed a large multi-colored banner with a picture of their 20-year-old son, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Corey Burr, and the phrase "Our son defends our freedom" after he was deployed to Afghanistan.
Jodi Burr says her family will fight the suit and does not intend to remove the sign.
The Burrs have lived in the development since 2006. They contend signs supporting a school or team are visible throughout the neighborhood.
An attorney representing the homeowners association declined to comment.
