Kurt Paschke, Jets fan caught on video apparently punching female Patriots fan, has criminal history

(CBS) EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Kurt Paschke, a New York Jets fan who was caught on video apparently punching a female New England Patriots fan in the faceat MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. over the weekend, has a criminal past, according to records obtained by CBS New York.

In 2011, Paschke was caught serving alcohol to minors while bartending and he served three years in prison on a 1995 conviction of criminally negligent homicide for fatally stabbing a teenager, according to information from the New York State Department of Corrections.

Paschke's mother, Colleen, says he was wrongly convicted in the homicide case, reports CBS New York.

"It happened many years ago when my son was only 17," Colleen Paschke said. "He was set up by a white supremacy group, and unfortunately, he ended up taking the blame for the stabbing of another youth."

On Sunday, the 38-year-old Paschke was caught on video apparently punching a woman at the stadium during or after the Jets' 30-27 overtime victory against the Patriots. The woman is wearing what appears to be a red and white Patriots jersey and Paschke is seen in a No. 70 Jets jersey.

The video was posted on YouTube and Deadspin.

The man who sent the video to Deadspin, identified by the website as "Rob," told the site: "Fight started in the stands with two girls fighting. And moved out to where I shot the video. Beer was thrown and clothing over the balcony. Security went after the guy. Didn't see what happened after that."

According to CBS New York, Paschke's mother claims her son was the victim in Sunday's incident and says the woman attacked him.

"She was the aggressor," Colleen Paschke said. "She just came out of nowhere and started punching my son."

Colleen Paschke was reportedly present when the brawl broke out. She said five Patriots fans, including two women, started fighting with her friends.

That was when her son jumped in to break it up, she said.

"He just went over to, just pull them off, you know, the guy and the girl, and that's when they grabbed my son and started punching him," Colleen Paschke said. "The one guy was holding him while the other guy was punching him."

What she describes was not captured on video. But in the clip that has gone viral, a blonde woman is seen lunging at Kurt Paschke before he throws a punch.

"She punched my son three times to the head, cut his eyebrow," Colleen Paschke said. "You should never hit a girl. I understand that. But you know what? When the girls are out of control, how do you defend yourself?"

Kurt Paschke was interviewed by police after the fight, as were the other people involved. Initially, he was told no charges would be filed, but now, New Jersey State Police have only said the investigation is ongoing.

The Jets have issued a statement saying, "We are aware of the situation and we do not tolerate that behavior. Parties involved were detained and this matter is now in the hands of the New Jersey State Police."
