Kucinich: Budget Funds War Through 2009
Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, one of the few House members to vote against a war spending bill last week because it did not go far enough, questioned the wisdom Wednesday of funding the war in the budget if the chamber has already approved a measure to force U.S. troops to leave Iraq by the fall of 2008.
“If we were serious about trying to stop the war, the budget would not contradict the supplemental,” Kucinich said in a statement. “That is not what voters asked for in November of 2006.”
Kucinich, who is running for his party’s presidential nomination, goes on to state that he will vote against the Democrats’ spending blueprint on Thursday because Congress needs to stop “the funding of this misadventure in Iraq and invest the money in health care, education, job training, social services, seniors and the environment.”
The spending blueprint is expected to pass without the support of the Ohio Democrat.
