Kit Bond To Retire

(CBS/AP)
Missouri Sen. Kit Bond won't seek reelection in 2010, the Associated Press reports, citing high-ranking Republicans in the state.

The former Missouri governor was elected to the Senate more than 20 years ago, and is now in his forth term. He had previously said he would run for reelection once more, but is expected to announce his retirement soon after state lawmakers convene Thursday.

UPDATE: Bond has released a statement confirming that he will not seek reelection.

"In 1972, I became Missouri's youngest Governor. Ladies and Gentlemen, I do no aspire to become Missouri's oldest Senator," he said.
