Kindle Fire critics can expect a fix soon

Amazon

(CBS) - The Kindle Fire is taking some heat for its imperfections, but have no fear. Fixes are on the way.

A New York Times article recently highlighted some annoying and unfortunate design flaws that plague the mini-tablet. Some of these include no external volume, on/off switch too easy to hit by accident, long web page load times and no privacy on devices.

No privacy? Boy, I didn't know there were so many shady Kindle users out there. Good news for those of you who want to hide your "Twilight Saga" collection. According to the Times, a fix is on its way. Soon users will be able to edit their reading history. Multitouch navigation and performance improvements are also on the way.

"In less than two weeks, we're rolling out an over-the-air update to Kindle Fire," said Amazon spokesperson Drew Herdener told the Times.

The device itself may see an upgrade in the spring. Amazon is mum on the matter, but the Times says it's coming "soon."

Analysts are having a field day speculating over the success and failure of the Kindle Fire. Some estimate Amazon will sell between three to five million units. Jakob Nielsen of the Nielsen Norman Group tells the Times he feels "the Fire is going to be a failure."

Ultimately, we won't know if the tablet has staying power until we can assess Amazon customers' willingness to purchase books and media on the device.
