Kids' Takes On Valentine's Day

Couples around the world will try to show their partners how much they're loved today with candlelit dinners, chocolates, and bouquets of flowers.

But Valentine's Day isn't just for adults anymore: Kids have some very strong opinions of what you should and shouldn't do to mark the day, as The Early Show's Dave Price found out when he visited some fourth graders in the Shawmont School, in Philadelphia.

One girl told Price, "Girls probably want to have a nice romantic day with a guy, instead of the guy watching football or something with his friends."

A boy said, "Men think of it as a day to dress up and grab a girl and dance."

"Some boys think Valentine's Day is a big, dumb holiday," said another girl. "(Girls) like hearts and flowers and teddy bears. Boys? Give 'em a red race car."

"You know what?" Price remarked. "You're brilliant!"

A boy told Price he'd give a girl a ring for Valentine's Day.

What would the perfect date be like on this day?

A girl said she'd like to be picked up by a limousine.

"Maybe a carriage ride?" replied another girl.

"Go to the beach, watch the sunset," a boy answered.

Said a girl, "McDonalds."

Another girl would to "to the Poconos."

A boy said he'd go dancing, and teach his date how if she didn't know.

"I don't like seafood at all," a girl noted, "and if some guy took me to a seafood restaurant, I would just march right out of that place.""He should probably have a sense of humor," said yet another girl, "because you don't want to be with a guy who's (boring) on a date."

"If you ask them to get you a napkin or get you a paper towel or something, they'll actually go get it for you," was another girl's description of the perfect Valentine's date.

As for Valentine's Day advice:

"If the guy only cares about how the girl looks," said one young lady, "then I don't think that they were meant to be together, because if you can't love someone for who they are, you should just move on."

"Guys," said one young guy, "listen to me: Don't blow the date by being clumsy, annoying, spilling drinks, or asking rude questions. Or else you'll get ditched."

"It's all about your personality," one young man opined.

"If you ever have a man you think you like," advised one girl, "you might want to be careful, because you never know if they're disgusting in ways you don't know."

When asked how a weatherman (such as Price) would do on a Valentine's Day date, one student just rolled his eyes, and price feigned anger.
