May, 4, 1928 - Mubarak is born in a village in Egypt's Nile Delta.
Oct. 14, 1981 - Mubarak is named Egypt's president after assassination of President Anwar Sadat.
June 26, 1995 - Mubarak survives an assassination attempt in Ethiopia.
March 2005 - Hundreds take part in street protests organized by the Kifaya (Enough) Movement to oppose a fifth term for Mubarak or plans to allow his son Gamal to succeed him.
May 11, 2005 - Parliament votes to change the constitution to allow contested presidential elections.
Sept. 27, 2005 - Mubarak is sworn in for a fifth consecutive term after winning the first contested presidential election on Sept. 7.
March 27, 2010 - Mubarak returns home after surgery in Germany to remove his gallbladder.
Nov. 28, 2010 - Parliamentary elections are held. Opposition parties say the vote was marred by fraud.
