Kesha tearfully thanks fans for support while accepting HRC award

Kesha found herself overwhelmed with emotion while thank her fans for their support through her current hardships.

The embattled singer, who recently suffered a setback in her legal battle against producer Dr. Luke, expressed her gratitude while accepting the Visibility award at the Human Rights Campaign Nashville Equality Dinner on Saturday.

"As many of you know I am going through some personal things that have been really intense and hard lately and I just want to say thank you for the support I have received," she said, before being overcome with emotion. Choking back tears, the singer had to step away from the microphone to compose herself for a moment, with the audience continuing to cheer her on as she did.

Kesha was given the award for her work combatting the harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth.

"My message today is don't be afraid to speak up against any injustice you experience," she said. "Don't let people scare or shame you into changing the things about you that make you unique."
