"I have had a great career and extraordinary opportunities," he told the New York Post. "But I look at my political aspirations as that last piece of my life - where I hope to do something good for people and pay back a little."

The former "Frasier" star, 56, said that acting and politics both require a "narcissistic personality" in order to succeed.

"You certainly have to have a resilient ego," he added.

Grammer did not say when he planned to end his acting career or what office he might run for, but did tell the paper that he'd likely stay in New York and run for office there.

If he does run in NYC, he might face competition from another famous face - actor Alec Baldwin has also expressed aspirations to become the city's mayor.
