Kelly Ripa Hosts Show on Crutches

NEW YORK (CBS) Kelly Ripa is sporting a new accessory - a pair of crutches.

The "Live with Regis and Kelly" co-host hobbled to her usual seat on Monday and told viewers " It looks much worse than it is," before launching into the story of what happened.

Ripa explained that she has a stress fracture in her right hip. Her doctor told her not to exercise for 3-6 weeks, which was hard for the active Ripa to hear.

"Right away, I was like what? There must be a mistake!" she said on the show.

But, she added, "I don't need any surgery, I don't need anything special done. I just have to sit down."

Her co-host, Regis Philbin, also had a "medical tragedy" over the weekend. He explained he was opening a package with a box cutter and "sliced" into his hand, and needed to go to the hospital to get "four, maybe five" stitches.

Ripa accused him of trying to one-up her.

"You saw my crutches and you cut yourself backstage, didn't you!?"
