Julie Benz is engaged

(CBS) Actress Julie Benz is engaged to her boyfriend of four years, marketing executive Rich Orosco.

"Thank you for all your well-wishes," she tweeted on Monday. "This is a very exciting time for us!"

A rep for the former "Dexter"/"No Ordinary Family" star confirmed to People magazine that Orosco, 38, popped the question on Sunday in the backyard of the home the couple shares in Los Angeles.

He proposed with a customized Kwiat cushion-cut diamond and platinum engagement ring,  according to the report. Then, nearly 60 members of their friends and family celebrated the engagement at a Mexican-inspired surprise party Orosco planned, complete with a Mariachi band.

"The proposal was simple and beautiful - and then I was shocked by the pop-up surprise Mexican fiesta engagement party," Benz, 39, told People. "What girl doesn't want to be serenaded by a Mariachi band surrounded by close friends and family?"

This will be the actress' second marriage. She and actor John Kassir married in 1998, and divorced in 2007.
