(CBS/AP) MCRAE, Ga. - A Florida man has been charged with killing a woman who was found shot to death by a fisherman in the Ocmulgee River in Georgia on Thursday, police said.

Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson announced Saturday that the victim has been identified as 64-year-old Judy Larue Morrow of Tampa, Fla. She had been shot in the head.

The sheriff said 25-year-old Joshua Lamar Helton of Plant City, Fla., was taken into custody Friday on a murder warrant. He said Helton had known Morrow and her family for some time and they had once been neighbors.

According to CBS affiliate WTSP, authorities will not say why they believe the former Plant City High School football player  is the murderer.

The victim's son told the station that he has known Helton for about a year and often invited him to his mother's house for dinner. He also said that he doesn't know why the former football player would allegedly murder his mother.

The investigation is ongoing.
