(AP) NEW YORK - A New York court says Prince should pay almost $4 million to a perfume company that said the musician hobbled its efforts to market a perfume named for one of his albums.

A court referee recommended a roughly $3.95 million award last week. It would have to be confirmed by another judge.

Prince's lawyer didn't immediately respond to phone and email messages Friday evening. He told the New York Law Journal that the "Purple Rain" musician would fight to keep the suggested award from being confirmed.

Revelations Perfume and Cosmetics Inc. says it licensed Prince's name, likeness and the album title "3121" to market its fragrance in 2006. The Huntingdon Valley, Penn.-based company says Prince broke promises to help promote the scent after its July 2007 launch.
