District attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison said Wednesday that Judge Marsha Revel recused herself Friday after a prosecutor complained she improperly contacted a rehab center about the court-ordered treatment of the actress.
Robison says the contact with the rehab center was among several instances when Revel improperly communicated with participants and experts without the prosecutor present.
"The prosecutor raised objections about the judge having hearings and conference calls without having the DAs present or being notified," Los Angeles District Attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison told People magazine. "It happened several times."
Superior Court Judge Elden Fox is now handling the Lohan case.
The 24-year-old troubled starlet was released Aug. 2 from the women's jail in Lynwood, Calif. She served 14 days of her 90-day sentence for violating probation in a 2007 drug case.
Upon release, Lohan was taken directly to treatment at UCLA Medical Center and is expected to be released early in November.
