A North Carolina judge has lifted a gag order in the high-profile case of a 22-year-old Marine accused of killing a pregnant colleague.

The Daily News of Jacksonville reported that Onslow County Superior Court Judge Charles Henry released his decision Monday.

He said the gag ordered he issued last month didn't meet constitutional standards to justify barring lawyers and others involved in the case from talking to the media.

Cpl. Cesar Laurean fled to Mexico shortly before the charred remains of 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach were found buried in his backyard in Jacksonville in January 2008.

Laurean was arrested in Mexico in April 2008, and extradited to North Carolina last month to face a first-degree murder charge.
