(CBS/AP/KLAS) LAS VEGAS - Police arrested a Las Vegas man accused of plotting to kill his wife and hiring an undercover officer for $2,000 to do the job as his 32nd birthday gift.

According to CBS affiliate KLAS, 32-year-old Jorge Vazquez allegedly wanted his wife killed because he claimed she cheated on him, took his money, and threatened to have him deported.

The Las Vegas Sun reports he was arrested last weekend on charges of solicitation to commit murder, burglary and conspiracy to commit murder, an arrest report states.

That report claims Vazquez allegedly asked someone on April 15 if that person knew of anyone willing to kill his wife or sell him a gun.

The anonymous informant, whose identity has been kept secret out of safety, called police three days later after feeling guilty about what Vazquez had allegedly said, the report said. Police asked the individual to set up a meeting with Vazquez and an undercover officer on Thursday.

His alleged plan for revenge was, as police say, an elaborately planned murder. Authorities say Vazquez paid $2,000 to a hit man who turned out to be an undercover officer.

Vazquez is accused of wanting the hit man to break into his house, beat him up, steal his personal items and kill his wife. The supposedly provided a diagram of the house and a picture of his 27-year-old wife to the undercover officer.

The undercover officer reportedly asked for $2,000 pay and gave Vazquez several opportunities to change his mind.

Police say Vazquez also gave the undercover hit man a detailed schedule of his wife's routine. Vazquez allegedly spent three days setting up the murder plot.

Metro police said they learned about the murder plan by an anonymous tip. Vazquez now faces several charges including conspiracy to commit murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
