Jon Stewart beats Jay Leno in the ratings
(CBS) "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" is king of late night! In one demographic! In one quarter (the second)!
It doesn't sound like much, but it's the demographic advertisers like most - 18-49. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it's the first time in 40 quarters - 10 years - that "The Tonight Show" has been unseated in a demographic. David Letterman's "Late Show" came in third.
THR reports there are caveats. With regular telecasts and re-runs, "The Tonight Show" is still tops, for example.
"The Daily Show" and its follow-up, "The Colbert Report," together finished the quarter leading all other late night shows in the 18-34 demographic.
In inexplicable news, Chelsea Handler's "Chelsea Lately" on E! beat Conan O'Brien's "Conan" in total viewers and in the 18-34 and 18-49 demos in June.
