NEW YORK (CBS) Filmmaker John Waters was on Comedy Central's "Colbert Report" discussing his new book "Role Models."

The "Hairspray" director was asked by Colbert if he felt any responsibility as a role model that people look up to. And his answers may shock you.

"Parents bring me their children now and say what can I do with them," Waters tells Colbert. "And I say, 'Be glad your kid's rebelling, 'cause think of the people who were stars in high school. Look at what they do now.' I looked in the yearbook now and they say interests: 'Doing things around the house.' That's so depressing."

"Hope that your kid is a bad influence on others," he says. "You have to ask yourself. Wouldn't you rather your kid be a drug dealer than a drug addict?"

Keep in mind, this comes from a man who earlier in the segment said "I taught a first grade class - the same class that I teach in prison. We did improv. We did an airplane crash and they loved it. They were hugging me. I gave them presents like Oprah. I gave them rat skeletons and they really liked it."
