John Stamos, of "Full House" and "ER," Extortion Target?
MARQUETTE, Mich. (CBS/AP) Actor John Stamos, best-known for his roles on the sitcom "Full House" and the hospital drama "ER," is in the middle of a real-life courtroom drama as the target of alleged extortion.
A Michigan Upper Peninsula couple, Scott Sippola and Allison Coss, are accused of trying to extort hundreds of thousands of dollars from Stamos, in a case that's scheduled for trial July 12.
Plea bargain talks in the case ended last Tuesday, June 8, and a judge on Thursday set the trial date for the defendants, who are charged with three crimes, including conspiracy. Sippola and Coss were arrested in Dec. 2009, after the FBI said they threatened to sell photos of Stamos unless he paid them $680,000.
Stamos' spokesman has said there was nothing embarrassing about the photos. The TV and stage actor has known Coss since 2004 when they met in Florida.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy Greeley heard arguments Thursday on Sippola's attempt to suppress statements made after his arrest, The Mining Journal of Marquette reported online. The judge promised a ruling on that issue "fairly quickly."
