John Boehner Offered "Thanks" in New MoveOn Ad
The spot starts out like a traditional one, with an announcer saying, "Too many politicians go to Washington and forget who sent them there. But not John Boehner."
But then it reveals itself as an attack on Boehner, who is not facing a serious reelection challenge.
"As House Minority Leader and a favorite of the insurance industry, John's shown the courage to stand up for the big guy," the announcer says, as a series of unflattering photos and video of Boehner appear. "He's defended health insurance companies' rights to jack up your premiums, to drop you whenever they feel like it, and most recently, to maintain monopolies that hurt consumers."
"John Boehner -- the right choice for Ohio -- er, health insurance companies," the announcer concludes.
Boehner spokesman emailed a response to the spot to Politico: "So this is what MoveOn does when it's not insulting decorated generals? Boehner's fighting for every Ohioan and American who wants Democrats to scrap their government takeover of health care and start over with better bipartisan solutions that will actually lower costs -- something the partisan hacks at MoveOn clearly aren't interested in."
