Joe Biden slams Ben Carson's anti-gay remarks: "Jesus, God"

Standing before a room full of LGBT activists Friday, Vice President Joe Biden registered his reaction to recent remarks by likely Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson about how prison turns "a lot" of ostensibly straight people gay.

"Now, every ridiculous assertion, from Dr. Carson on," the vice president said exasperatedly of Carson, a retired neurosurgeon and conservative activist. "I mean -- Jesus, God. I mean, oh, God. I mean, it's kind of hard to fathom, isn't it?"

Carson, who announced earlier this week that he's formed a committee to explore the possibility of a 2016 White House bid, made headlines Wednesday for saying being gay is "absolutely" a choice during a TV interview with CNN.

"A lot of people who go into prison, go into prison straight, and when they come out, they're gay," he said.After a media firestorm, Carson walked back those comments in a Facebook post Thursday, apologizing for his "hurtful and divisive" rhetoric and arguing that he's supported Constitutional protections for same-sex couples "for many years."

"I support civil unions for gay couples, and I have done so for many years," Carson's post read. "I support the right of individual states to sanction gay marriage, and I support the right of individual states to deny gay marriage in their respective jurisdictions."

Carson's apology marks a curious turn from his crusade against political correctness. Among his more incendiary claims includes his comparison of same-sex marriage to pedophilia and bestiality.
