J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter site Pottermore coming soon, details here
(CBS) - Today, J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, announced more details about her anticipated digital venture. She revealed the site will be "an online reading experience unlike any other." In a video posted on the working site, Rowling says the unique space will feature "the same story with a few crucial additions - the most important one - you."
The free website Pottermore.com will be an exciting online experience around the reading of the Harry Potter books.
The site officially opens to everyone in October, but you can come back July 31 to find out how you can get a chance to enter Pottermore early. (Do we smell a contest in the works?)
Pottermore will have the seven Harry Potter books on sale as e-books come October, "ending the boy wizard's status as one of the highest profile holdouts against digital publishing," according to The Associated Press.
Rowling, who believes e-books are here to stay, said in a statement that she wanted to give back to loyal fans and "bring the stories to a new digital generation."
"I hope fans and those new to Harry will have as much fun helping to shape Pottermore as I have. Just as I have contributed to the website, everyone else will be able to join in by submitting their own comments, drawings and other content in a safe and friendly environment - Pottermore has been designed as a place to share the stories with your friends as you journey through the site," she explains.
Rowling didn't give any details on whether or not Hogwarts would offer online classes on her new site - but let's keep our fingers crossed! Sadly, Reuters said that Rowling made it clear that she will not write an eighth Harry Potter book... Boo!
