Jimmy Kimmel evacuates French Polynesia after tsunami

(CBS) Jimmy Kimmel's vacation in the South Pacific has taken a scary turn, as tsunami waves spawned by a massive earthquake in Japan spread across the Pacific.

The late-night TV host has been updating his Twitter status from a small island in French Polynesia.

"Suddenly, relaxing on an island in the South Pacific isn't so relaxing anymore," Kimmel wrote. "Good thing I brought my aqua stilts."

"thanks to those who sent good wishes - this is crazy," he said in another message.

Kimmel continued to update, as followers relayed their concern: "thanks again for the concern - I am now worried others will worry if I don't tweet - but if I don't, don't."

When one asked Kimmel how scared he was, on a scale of 1-10, he responded, "a good solid 7. on a small island, with no high ground."

About two hours ago, he updated his status again: "we are evacuating the island. dogspeed."
