"We were in the 10th row and it looked like he did a massive face plant after his encore and pretty much didn't get up,'' audience member Dan Bateman, 30, told the newspaper.

Another concert-goer told TMZ that Buffett appeared to be unconscious for five to ten minutes and had a large gash on his head.

Sean Fogarty, who also sat in the front row at the show, recalled to the gossip site that Buffet was doing a solo and was walking along the edge of the stage when a "a huge flash of light" appeared, making it impossible to see and what led him to fall. Fogarty says he later heard Buffet's head strike metal as he fell off stage.

Buffett's manager, Michael Chugg, then took the stage and urged fans to leave the auditorium at Hordem Pavillon.

The singer was taken by paramedics to Sydney's St. Vincent's Hospital, where he is reportedly in stable condition and is expected to stay for observation.

Wednesday night's concert was Buffett's fifth and last in Sydney on his current tour with his Coral Reefer Band.
