Jewel to play June Carter Cash in biopic

(CBS/AP) The singer Jewel will portray June Carter Cash, playing opposite Matt Ross, in a new Lifetime movie based on John Carter Cash's book about his mother.

Like the book "Anchored in Love," the movie will follow June from her early childhood in the rural mountains of Virginia to her marriage to Johnny Cash.

Filming will commence early this summer in Atlanta, and the movie is slated to premiere later this year

The Alaska-reared Jewel has earned four Grammys for her singing and songwriting and has hosted TV singing competitions.

Ross, star of "American Horror Story," will play Johnny Cash.

This won't be the first time The Carter Family singer, who died in 2003, will be portrayed on the silver screen. Reese Witherspoon won an Oscar for her role in 2005's "Walk the Line."
