(CBS) ATLANTA - Atlanta police say a father is charged with felony murder after his 18-month-old boy was shot with a BB gun and later died of his injuries.

Officer Kim Y. Jones says the boy's father, 23-year-old Jesse L. Sellers, was arrested Friday on suspicion of felony murder and cruelty to children. Jones says police were called to an apartment complex Friday morning after receiving a report of a child shot in the chest. Police say the boy, who is identified as Jesstin Sellers, was taken to Grady Hospital and later died.

CBS Atlanta reports it was the child's mother who called police. There were reportedly three other children inside of the home at the time of the shooting.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Sellers was being held without bond in the Fulton County Jail. The boy's uncle, Willie Dickerson, told the newspaper the shooting was an accident.

Dickerson reportedly told CBS Atlanta Jesse Sellers was playing with a BB rifle, trying to scare his son, when he pulled the trigger. Dickerson claims Jesse Sellers didn't realize the gun was loaded.

Police say they recovered a BB gun from inside the apartment.
